Feb. 18th, 2012 I opened Ottawa's first 100% dedicated stand-alone Gluten-Free bakery and gourmet food shop. After 7 years of recipe development and 5 years as a teaching chef; I taught hundreds of cooking classes to hundreds of people. The bakery currently produces about 60 of the 300+ recipes I developed during that time. The bakery is dedicated to fine quality production of bread, cakes, cookies, desserts, lunches and dinner menus and offers a selection of tast-approved food items. We use 22 different flours in our baking and strive to have the highest quality and best nutrionally sound g/f products available on the market today. Our customers come from across Canada and the US to visit our Ottawa location. We welcome commercial inquiries from companies who wish to partner with us. Our plan is to make our products available everywhere. Cooking classes are not offered at this time.

Menu - in part

The formatting is not working on the blog - we realize this is hard to read, but it's the only way it would go up. All our yeasted breads are dairy free. Many of these items are dairy and lactose and egg free - please come into the store for more information. We cater to a number of different issues and can custom make many things that are not on the menu. Friend us on facebook for customer testimonials, photos and more information. Thanks for visiting us. Brown rice bread (like a nice white sandwich bread - soft and delicious) - 500g loaf $8.00 Sorghum almond bread (people say it tastes like the brown bread at Upper Canada Village) 500g loaf $8.00 Mock rye bread (teff flour/caraway seeds - no rye in it as rye is not gluten-free) 500g loaf $10. Chick pea bread (a big loaf) - the most like the texture of a wheat bread - has 3 eggs in it and the colour of a challah bread $12.00 Sorghum almond and chick pea flour bread are the two most popular - but we sell a lot of bread each day in each one. Focaccia bread (fresh herb, garlic and olive oil) - this is a flat bread made from our brown rice bread - very popular $8.50 Ham and Swiss Pannini on the foccacia bread - $7.00 Buns for hamburgers: yeasted buns (3 in each pack) - our brown rice bread $6.00 or foccacia with herbs and garlic infused in the bread ($7.50) non-yeast buns (no sugar added) - corn meal buns ($6.50 pck of 3) sweet potato biscuits (fresh sweet potato and butter in these) - pack of 4 for $8.00 waffles: pack of 4 $10.00 pizza crusts: 12" is $7.50 personal size is 9.5" $4.50 Squares are all $3.50 each: brownies made with real chocolate, we use flours high in calcium, protien and iron for this product marzipan squares: shortbread crust, almond cake and icing, raspberry jam date squares apple crisp squares nanaimo squares chewy chunks (sweetened condensed milk with coconut, roasted almonds, raisins, chocolate chips - no flour) Cupcakes are all $3.00 each chocolate red velvet (no food colouring used - this product is made with beets and fresh lemon juice) salted caramel confetti (this is a white cake with confetti sprinkles and white icing) chocolate cloud (chocolate cake with meringue icing) Cookies are all $1.50 each carrot with orange icing fruit and seed chocolate chip double chocolate shortbread oatmeal raisin Muffins are $2.50 each donut muffins (baked not fried - only 1/3 cup sugar in a batch of 12) - cinnamon and sugar topping butter tart muffins Pies: fruit pies are $15. each Currently our meat pies are $18.00 - they contain beef chunks, mushrooms, carrot and pototatoes, carmelized onions Salads (these are between $4-5 each): hummus tabouli curried corn jamaican sweet potato Soups: cream of brocolli 5.25 lentil 4.25 cakes: most 8" flavours are $35.00 most 9" flavours are $45.00 we custom bake cakes so they are fresh as we do not use preservatives in our cakes and many people have other allergies than just gluten who come into the store. We are making awesome thin crust pizza crusts for ZaZaZa Pizza in Ottawa! The former owner of the Works restaurants has opened this new specialty pizza restaurant and has it's second location opening in the Glebe on June 6th (915 Bank St. near Holmwood). Find them at www.zazazapizza.com or on facebook. It's our amazing chickpea flour crust. The size of the crust is a 12 inch which is a standard medium size pizza. Love the toppings they have. The new Glebe store is truly elegant and fun.
We are now making pies. A sample selection at the moment is: Cherry lattice, apple crumble, butterscotch meringue. Our first meat pies sold out last week and will be available again on Tuesday afternoon.....the meat pie is made with beef chunks, caramelized onions, mushrooms, carrot and potato. Our pastry currently is half the fat of regular pastry and contains egg yolks, but no dairy and is made with lard. See our facebook page for photos. See below for store hours and information.

The Joy of Gluten Free is a wheat free, rye free, barley free commercial kitchen facility for baked goods and catering including bulk flours (soon to come), artisan bread, cakes, pastries and lunch items (soon to come).

The Joy of Gluten Free prepares fabulous food everybody loves. Founded on 6 years of intense recipe creation and research we vow to achieve the highest standards in both taste and nutrition. Tantalizing your senses and taste buds with fresh baked bread, crepes, cakes, buns, sweets and pastries all made on the premises. For cooks there is a selection of gluten free flours, pastas and gourmet items. If you thought gluten-free was just for those who needed it, we guarantee we'll change your mind about wanting it. With our open concept kitchen on site and our selection of food we hope that we truly will convert you over to a gluten free lifestyle filled with joy. We also have some selections for dairy free, egg free, vegan lifestyles.

We are a peanut free facility. We use almonds in some of our baking. We do not use soy oil or soy flour. We use hershey's chocolate and crystal lactose free margarine in some products; both these contain soy lecithin. We use "Only Oats" in some of our baked goods as clearly indicated in the store. Those baked goods (date squares, oatmeal cookies, apple crumble squares, chocolate macaroons) are therefore considered wheat free, rye free and barley free but not gluten-free. For information on allowable oats in a Celiac diet please refer to: http://www.celiac.ca/Articles/PABoats.html Current labeling laws in Canada prohibit the use of a gluten-free label on any oats.
